The Causeway collection is the first inspired by a new folktale which bridges on both Scottish and Irish storytelling, with a few cultural differences here and there.
It seems like forever ago I designed and launched a new collection, but it was probably this time last year. I'd love to launch more collections more often. As a creative, I've got so many ideas, so many designs and so little time.

This collection is inspired by the story of two giants who battled across the Irish sea, hurling insults (and rocks I imagine too!) at each other. In Northern Ireland, Fionn MacCamhaill is one such giant, who has a cunning plan to build a causeway, so he can travel over to his rival, Bennandoner and really fight him face to face. When Fionn arrives he spots his rival, who is much larger than he ever anticipated. Scared, he flees back to his home before Bennandoner can spot him.
Upon arriving home, Fionn's wife asks how he got on and he describes what he saw. Fionn's wife was aware that the causeway still stands, so there's nothing to stop Bennandoner coming over to pick a fight on their doorstep. She is the true heroine of this story, with wit and quick thinking, she disguises her husband as a baby, building a crib from wood and swaddling him in a blanket.
When Bennandoner arrives, Fionn's wife states he is out and unavailable, but offers for the giant to wait a while, pointing to the baby in the crib and stating it was just her and the baby in just now. Upon seeing the size of such a big baby, Bennandoner made his excuses, fleeing the scene quickly, not wanting to pick a fight with the father of such a giant baby! He destroys the causeway as he journeys back across to Scotland.

I really wanted to capture the essence of the causeway being a link between two places, which can also bring people together, symbolising this connection to each other.
Using the recognisable hexagon as the form, from the basalt columns that forms the causeway, this collection is a series of hexagonal links or single hexagonal 'stepping stone' shapes. Each hexagon is completely unique, due to the handmade nature of the shapes, each with a hammered texture to mimic the worn rocky textures of the causeway.

Pieces in the Causeway collection are available with a polished finish or an oxidised finish, where it becomes black, imitating the basalt even further.
